Micromesh (what we install). Fine stainless mesh over a rigid frame. Blocks oak leaves, maple samaras, and, critically, pine needles. The only type that handles the full Hudson Valley debris mix. Typical installed cost here: $800–$2,200, with a 25-year warranty. Perforated metal screens. Cheaper, decent against whole leaves, but samaras and needles pass straight through, and around Black Rock Forest that's half the problem. Foam inserts. Skip them. They clog internally, grow moss in our creek-valley humidity, and are miserable to service. Surface-tension helmets. Work in moderate debris, but heavy oak drop overwhelms the nose, and they shed water past the gutter in hard Hudson Valley downpours.
